Welcome to the 2008 season. This is our 54th
consecutive summer season. Over 30,000 young women have played here at Lake Shawnee Girls Softball (Shawnee
County Girls Softball Association) throughout the years.
This year has brought a few changes. At the request of coaches and players, we are now using USSSA
rules in our league. We split the instructional league into a developing upper and lower division in preparation
of a new division in 2009.
Instructional
division is now a two-division league. The Silver division is primarily for 4-6 year olds.
This is a coach pitch league that uses a tee if the batter is walked. The Gold division is designed
for 6-8 year olds who have played before. In this league the girls pitch until a walk, hit, or strikeout
has occurred. If walked, the coach will pitch 2 pitches. This is an attempt to develop
our pitchers earlier and provide an easier transition to the 10u division.
Let’s keep in mind the primary goal of this board, employees, parents, players, umpires and fans is the development
and safety of all 700 + players. This is a game that has rules to be understood and followed.
When asking a question regarding rules, please make every effort to do so in an adult manner. These
young ladies see and hear more than we might think. No arguing with the umpires, PERIOD.
If you feel that you need to talk to an umpire, do so in a controlled, inquiring manner. Any
excessive language, actions, or behavior will not be tolerated.
Coaches, players, and parents; just a reminder that discussions between opposing players, parents,
and coaches concerning team play for this season or next season until after the year end ceremonies. This
is a recruiting violation and is against league rules.
Please support your concession stand. We have and will always make every effort to provide you with
the items you want and that will sell. As the banner at the front gate states:
“No outside
food or drink are allowed.” (that is during league and tournaments.) No cooler,
cakes, Popsicles, ice cream, outside food and drink. Teams are allowed to have a team cooler that dispenses
water or Poweraide liquids. The SCGSA Board Members have the right to inspect those coolers.
We really want this season to be a memorable one for everyone involved. Please play by rules on
and off the field. As you exit the dugout, or the complex please pickup your trash and put it in the trash
barrels. This keeps the pests, insects away, makes for a quicker clean up and keeps your complex beautiful.
Thanks for your support in 2008 and Good luck to all,
Greg Brungardt
